Give Damaged Teeth the Royal Treatment

Dental crowns are deluxe fillings

While small cavities and minor damage can often be repaired with standard tooth-colored fillings, when teeth have sustained large areas of damage, dental crowns offer a higher level of protection. These dynamic prosthetics fit over your existing tooth like a cap, restoring both their appearance and function, so you can eat, speak, and smile with confidence.

What Is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown fits over your tooth like a cap to restore and protect it

Think of a dental crown as a deluxe filling. However, while standard fillings only replace a small portion of the tooth, a dental crown covers the entire tooth like a cap. Dental crowns both look and feel just like your real teeth and are ideal for restoring large areas of damage such as tooth decay, infection, or cracks, allowing you to once again use the tooth and protecting it from further damage.

The Process of Getting a Dental Crown

Your dental crown treatment can be completed in as little as two appointments

Getting a dental crown is easier than you might think. First, Dr. Medaugh will numb the surrounding area in your mouth. Once you are comfortable, he will carefully remove the damaged portions of your tooth and reshape it so it can accommodate your new crown. Then, you will be fitted with a temporary crown. In about two weeks, your permanent porcelain crown will be delivered to our office from the dental laboratory. Once it arrives, you will be scheduled to come back to have the temporary crown removed and the permanent crown cemented into place. Following this, you will be able to immediately use and enjoy your newly crowned tooth.

Benefits of Getting a Dental Crown

One of the benefits of a dental crown include restored use of your damaged tooth

When you have a damaged tooth, it is important to fix it as soon as possible to prevent it from getting worse. What may appear to be just a small chip, crack, or cavity now can quickly turn into a tooth infection and eventually require a complete extraction. Dental crowns can prevent these issues from worsening by protecting the tooth and restoring its appearance and function.

Dental crowns are usually made from durable, lifelike porcelain which can be matched to the shade of your existing teeth, so it blends in seamlessly with your smile. Best of all, because of its strength, it can be used to enjoy a diet full of the nutritious, delicious, foods you love.
